Review ~ Inhibitions ~ Kimberly Bracco

In the last six months, Ashley’s life has been one disappointment after another. She walked in on her boyfriend with another woman, leaving her needing a new place to live and a mountain of debt. As if that wasn’t enough, her ex convinces her that his infidelity is her fault for being unadventurous in bed.

Deep down Ashley has always had the desire to be wild but has been held back by her own insecurities. She’s desperate to break free, but she’s fearful of how people will judge her if they know her inner desires. She wants nothing more than to lose herself in sex that pushes her to the limit, but she hasn’t found anyone she trusts enough to take her there until she meets Tanner.

Tanner doesn’t trust anyone outside of his inner circle easily. The infamous, media proclaimed playboy, quarterback is tired of people using him for money, connections and to get their fifteen minutes of fame. Determined to protect his image and himself, he makes sure to keep most people at arm’s length until Ashley is thrown into his life. He’s inexplicably drawn to her, and she needs his help in more ways than one.  But to help her, he’ll need to let her in.

There’s an immediate attraction and connection that neither can deny, but can both of them get past their inhibitions and find what they are looking for in each other or will everything backfire in their faces?

My bad luck first started six months ago, when I discovered my boyfriend, Jason, had been cheating on me. I suppose if you asked my mother though, she’d say my bad luck had started two and half years ago, when I started dating Jason. My parents never liked him.

“He just rubs me the wrong way, Ashley,” my mother had always said. “He’s not the guy for you.” She’d claimed that it wasn’t one thing in particular but that something about Jason as a whole just didn’t sit right with her. Either way, she was right. I guess mother’s intuition really is accurate… But I’ve never told her the real reasons we broke up or how much debt he put me in before we did. Let’s just say I don’t want to see the look on her face if she found out the truth about Jason. She’d say that since she’d been right about my choice in him, maybe I should consider another career before it turned out she was right about that as well.

Jason and I had shared an apartment in Jersey City. That is until I’d found him having an afternoon romp in our sheets with someone who certainly wasn’t me one Thursday when he should have been working, and I kicked him out.

I’d come home early that day to grab a few outfit choices to bring with me to my best friend Quinn’s. We were heading to the city that night so I could check out a hit club for the weekend edition of the paper. I’d known that something was off the minute I walked through the door. A pair of women’s shoes lay on the living room floor. They were not mine. I didn’t own electric blue stilettos.

Then I heard them.

So, this is where I tell you how amazing it is being a blogger! I received an email slightly different from the generic ones that get lost in the sea of inbox mail. How glad am I that I spotted it and agreed to review this book!

I went into this read a little apprehensive, not knowing a great deal about the author. Glad I didn’t read up on other opinions of Kimberly’s writing too.

Firstly we meet Ashley who is having the worse luck as of late. She manages to bag herself a chance to shine, impress and progress at work. This entails an interview with Tanner, a home town sports star who is loved by many on and off the playing field!

Tanner having issues with journalists and the lies they print about him, reluctantly gives the interview. When Ashley is late, Tanner is far from impressed, then she turns her questioning personal on him and he’s not a happy bunny. There is an atmosphere/connection between the two characters which is intense and you can just imagine the sparks flying.

After reading the first few chapters I was hooked enough to not want to put the book down! The couple face obstacles in many forms and I enjoyed watching them adapt and learn together. Tanner’s charm and warmth was so endearing and at times you wanted to shake Ashley out of her insecurities.

The cliffhanger ending was a total surprise though! – Good job there’s not long to wait until the next in the series!!

If you like fast paced, romance with a few hot damn scenes this is the book for you!

Review ~ Against The Tide ~ Nikki Groom ~ reviewed by Donna

~I was happy until I met him.
I was content until I met her.
~That’s a lie. I was lonely.
That’s a lie. I was incomplete.
~He was nothing but a handsome distraction.
She was nothing but a pretty pastime.
~That’s untrue. He changed my life.
That’s untrue. She altered my world.

~I blame myself. He wasn’t to know.
I blame myself. It wasn’t her fault.
~I don’t want to need him.
I hate that I want her.
~There’s no easy solution.
There’s no going back.

After reading Nikki’s first two books Holding Aces and High Stakes and absolutely LOVING them, you can only imagine how excited I was to get my hands on this book. Yet again I had my mind blown! The quality of Nikki’s writing keeps everything fluent and smooth.

Megan found herself in the middle of a mess when she was naive and ignorant to some wrong doings around her, the less she knew the better right? Her long time sweetheart turned into a stranger so she wanted an out.

Introducing Finn the hotty across the club. Going through a rough time himself feeling responsible for his sister and his mum.

One night of letting loose turned into something more.

Finn and Megan had such a magnetic pull between them you couldn’t help but hold your breath and wait for the outcome! Nikki’s writing again keeps you captivated and intrigued with all the feels, I laughed and cried and everything in between, as if I was there with the characters watching everything play out before my very eyes.

The supporting characters were charismatic, Harley, Kyle and Jamie my ultimate faves! The camaraderie between the boys is at times hilarious, and there were a few times I would have spat my drink out laughing (if I was drinking) at the bluntness of Jamie, who doesn’t have one of ‘those’ friends?

The plot twists were totally unexpected and kept you reading on as fast as you possibly could.

The thing that stood out the most for me was the raw emotions created. Not only was the scene set in enough detail for you to picture it like a movie but the moods flitting across the pages were intense and awe inspiring.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Nikki, Thank You and keep them coming! ❤

“Is Damien Brooks the guy you were at the club with, the night we …”

“The night we fucked in the alley?” she answers brazenly.

“You’re not very lady like.”

“I never claimed to be a lady.”

I lean forward in to the space between us, she pulls back a little until her shoulder hits the door trim. “Is Damien Brooks the guy you were at the club with the night we fucked in the alley?” I say in a low, soft voice. My eyes linger on her lips as her mouth drops open slightly, and the next breath she takes shudders through her chest.

“Yes. What does that matter?”

“Was he selling drugs there that night?”

“I …I don’t know what he …I don’t even know what I’m talking to you for.” She unbuckles her belt and starts tugging on the door handle. “Let me out. I must be fucking insane. You’re a psycho, a fucking lunatic, let me out of this fucking car before I kick the fuck out of your window with my heels.” She demands.

“Go ahead. Not my car.” I laugh, sitting back in amusement to watch the show.

“Should have known that too. Did you steal it? Of course you stole it, you just take what you want don’t you? You wanted me that night, and you took me. You just took me again, against my will, from outside my home.” She utters, “So what will you take next? What is it that you want from Damien, from me? I don’t have any money, I don’t have any drugs−”

I silence her hysterics by grabbing the back of her head roughly and crashing my lips against hers. There’s something about her that shoots a charge through my body, it’s against my better judgement but the frustration I have around my feelings toward her fuels the passion.

Reviewing this book is difficult because I can’t find the words to express how it made me feel, the fact is it did make me feel, a lot! I went through every single emotion whilst reading, the sadness brought me tears and the happiness left me smiling.

This is a story of two very wounded souls and their journey through the toughest time of their lives. It’s a perfect take on the ‘can they overcome everything that’s standing in their way’ story but the stand out to this story for me is how real it feels. Quite often in books of a similar theme too much is thrown at the characters that it’s hard to relate too, Nikki keeps this simple it’s not the quantity of things that’s the issue it’s the severity.

It’s hard not to imagine yourself as the characters and feel as if you’re experiencing their drama, that’s in part down to Nikki’s beautiful writing that flows fluently in all her work but also props go to the story itself. It’s gritty and relatable. Funny and heartwarming. Along with the sad times there’s light and happiness. Then there’s Finn well he’s a whole lot of hotness with a round of fun and a sprinkling of broodiness. I fell for him easily and his passion with Meg was beyond hot! As for Meg she’s the woman everyone has the potential to be, she’s run down by life but underneath she’s a fighter and we see her strength grow throughout.

In summary it’s a beautiful, fresh and beguiling read. I was captivated from the get go and the way I felt when reading those final four lines will stay with me forever.

Another job amazingly done Nikki!

Race car mechanic Andressa “Andi” Amaro has one rule—no dating drivers. With a good reason behind the rule, she has no plans on breaking it.

Carrick Ryan is the bad boy of Formula One. With a face and body that melts panties on sight, and an Irish lilt that leaves women on their knees, begging for more. He races hard and parties harder. The youngest driver to ever sign with F1, he’s still at the top of his game five years later, breaking hearts on and off the tracks.

When Andi is offered her dream job working in the glamorous world of F1, she leaves her home in Brazil, positive she can handle working for Carrick. But she’s not prepared for the off-the-chart sparks that fly the moment they meet.

Now, Andi has a crush on the one man she can’t have, and her resolve is about to be put to the test, because Carrick has decided he wants Andi, and he plans on testing her to the very limit…

I run my fingertips over the blue-and-silver paintwork as I walk toward the back end. Bending over, I start poking around, taking a look at the engine.

“Please tell me that you’re my birthday present.”

The Irish drawl has the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.

I turn my head to find Carrick Ryan standing behind me.

Oh. Wow.

He’s definitely better looking in the flesh than on television. I knew he was attractive. But blonds aren’t usually my thing. I’m more of a dark-hair-and-dark-eyes kind of girl.

But his dirty-blond hair, blue eyes laced with sin, and full lips—the kind of lips you spend hours sucking on—and that chiseled jaw decorated with stubble…yep, it all seems to be working for me. Well, my body anyway. Definitely not my head. Man-sluts are not my thing.

My eyes meet with his as he lifts them from blatantly staring at my arse. The look in them hits me straight in the gut, surprising the hell out of me. His eyes are profoundly blue and filled with heat. My skin starts to prickle as his intense stare burns me up.

I’ve never had such an instant visual reaction to a man before.

Take it easy, Andi. This isn’t a problem. You’ve met good-looking men before. You can turn this off. Drivers are a no-go area, especially ones you work for.

My job is too important to lose over a man.

Straightening, I turn to face him.

“Hello,” I say in my most confident and formal voice.

I get nothing back, and that’s because he hasn’t heard me. He’s too busy staring at my breasts.

Typical man.

I have the sudden urge to punch him in his handsome face.

But I won’t because I’m a professional. I’ll handle this in the best way I know when it comes to dealing with pervy dickheads like him.

“It’s your birthday?” I say sweetly, my smile a little on the flirtatious side.

He grins. “It sure is, and it’s definitely looking up now that you’re here. Are you going to make it extra special for me, sugar?”

He thinks he’s about to get lucky.

Far from it. Smarmy twat.

I tilt my head to the side, keeping the flirty smile on my face, as I walk up to him until there’s very little space between us. I press my fingers to his chest. God, that’s firm. I can feel the ridge of his muscles underneath my fingertips.

He’s tall, too, a good few inches higher than my five-nine. I’d say he’s six-one, which is tall for a driver, but he’s lean. He needs to be to fit into those cars. I bet, under those clothes of his, there’s nothing but toned muscle. Drivers have to be seriously fit, and Carrick Ryan certainly ticks that box on both counts.

Now, I’m imagining him naked. Great. Just fucking great.

I force my focus back to the now. “Well…” I lean in closer to him, hearing him suck in a sharp breath. I lower my voice as I whisper, “If you ever call me sugar again, you won’t see your next birthday. That’s for sure.”

He tilts his head back in amusement. “Feisty. I like it.”

I take a step back, dropping my hand from his chest. “There’s nothing here for you to like.”

His eyes run the length of me, lingering on my legs, the lusty look firing in them again. “I see plenty to like. Jesus…your legs go on forever.”

I wish I had something to hide my legs behind. Instead, I fold my arms to bring his focus up. “I’m not your type.”

Lifting his eyes back to mine, he gives me a confident smile. “Amazing arse. Great stems. Awesome rack. Beautiful face. Yep”—he nods—“you’re definitely my type.”

5 champagne popping, podium topping stars*****
When I review a book it normally takes me a couple of days to gather my thoughts and actually type anything but when I finished Revved I couldn’t get the words down quick enough. I will start by saying this will probably make no sense at all as I am currently drunk on words, words spoken by the strong, sassy, extremely endearing Andressa Amaro and the ridiculously hot, brooding, sinfully sexy Carrick Ryan. Words that the amazingly talented Samantha Towle somehow managed to put together and turn into one of my fave reads ever and definitely the best book I’ve read this year.
We start in Monaco with one of the saddest first chapters I’ve read and it’s hard for your heart not to break for the 10 year old Andressa but it sets the scene for the first of many heartbreaks along the way. Monaco broke my heart twice over and yet I still loved it.
I loved the ‘will they, won’t they’ aspect of the book but it had my heart in my mouth constantly. I really felt for Andi each time she had a run in with Carrick, my emotions felt so life like, I cringed when something embarrassing happened, I swooned when Carrick had his heartfelt moments and I cried when it all went to shit! I may have mentally shouted at the pair of them several times too.
Sometimes as a reader the female is the hard one to connect with after all they get the man of our dreams right? They either take too much crap from the guy or are too whiny. For me Andressa broke the mould for all her faults mainly her indecisiveness and ability to break Carrick’s heart I couldn’t dislike her she made me feel, in fact I’d go as far as to say I loved her as much as I loved Carrick. I was totally on her team and routing for her throughout. As for Carrick, holy hotness, I fell and I fell hard. He was such a charming, loveable guy and I don’t know what magic Samantha conjured up within her text but every time she mentioned him I mentally swooned she had a way of making him come alive before my eyes. The most impressive thing for me has to be the way I felt when Carrick walked into a room Samantha really captured the feeling between him and Andi so much so that I swear at times (when Andi was nervous about seeing him) I actually held my breath.
I know I just spewed a load of random feelings on a page but nothing I say can really do justice to this book or capture what I actually felt when reading, this book totally blew my mind. It’s such a beautiful story full of angst and a relatively simple plot that relied solely on the love between the characters to bring it alive. I have no idea how any book will follow this for me, it’s certainly going to take some getting over and it’s definitely the best book I’ve read this year it’s also easily secured itself in my top ten of all time and Carrick Ryan is right up the with the best!

Review ~ Love Reflection ~ Maria Macdonald

What happens when you find the love of your life, then you lose them?

Pearson Amberry lost the only man she’d ever loved. She has secrets she’s kept close for many years. Descending into a downward spiral that she couldn’t pull herself out of, her life was fast becoming just an existence. That was until a new man entered her life. A man with secrets of his own, and when the love of her life comes back unexpectedly, she knows it’s time to come clean.

Conner McKenna took a step back when he hurt Pearson. He left for another country when his work took him there, even though he didn’t want to. After years of trying to be her friend, and wanting to be back in her bed, he decided enough was enough. When one of their friends is attacked, he realises that life is too short and he needs to move heaven and earth to try and win her heart one more time. However, when he realises the truth will he be able to deal with it, and will he still look at Pearson the same way?

What will happen when secrets are revealed, and emotions are running high? Can they move on from their past and can they recognise the love reflected in each other?

The thing I love most about blogging is finding a gem of a book and getting lost in it, you know, the sort of book that has you thinking constantly and turning the pages as fast as you can, the sort of books that keep you up until the early hours? From the first chapter of love reflection I knew I had hit blogging gold.

From the off we meet Pea and her 3 friends that have been together forever their relationship is endearing and the love they share is apparent. It’s hard not to want to be part of the gang and the way Maria writes, drags you straight in so you feel like you’re one of them.

We find out that Pea and Con have been in a relationship but fate was not on their side, they still share a close friendship but it’s purely platonic, cue the perfect setting for a second chance romance. The problem is Pea has secrets she’s hidden from Con that mean their path to true love is anything but easy. Throw into that the mystery shrouding Saul and then the arrival of Dane and the possibilities are endless.
I love the way the book is written, it jumps from past to present but in a way that is not confusing or at all awkward. When Pea interrupted the present with her flashbacks I got annoyed thinking I want to know what’s happening now and then as soon as I started reading the flashback I didn’t want to go back to the present! My brain was conflicted what I really wanted was to know what was happening all at once, infact I wanted to know what was happening so badly that I stayed awake until 2.30am (even though I had to be up for work at 7) just to finish the book! I read the first 5 chapters separately and then devoured the rest in one whole sitting. Maria wrote beautifully and I was gripped from chapter to chapter.

This was a great read, the only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is that the ending for me was a bit much. I’d have liked a little room to move on in the next book with Pea and Con, having said that the way Maria left things with Soph means that book two is a must! I’m excited for future books from Maria because if she’s capable of this with her debut she has bucket loads of promise for the next book and beyond.

This is a book we were contacted about, asking us to review it, luckily I had a few days break in between other scheduled reviews, or this Novella would have escaped me!

We have a girl, April, who’s Mum and Dad are taken away from her for living life on the con, forcing her to move away from everything she has ever known to stay with her Aunty.

To  April, or Sophia as she will later be known, her parents were the best people ever and so with a little help from her cousin, she is now plotting revenge on all those who played a part in sending her parents to prison.

Whilst staking out her first targets at a country club bar, she bumps into Liam. A strong, dominant,  Alpha-male who usually gets what he wants… Until Sophia that is…  April/Sophia has an undeniable, instant attraction to him but with her head in the game she begrudgingly refuses his advances. He slips her his card and that is when Anneliese Vandell really stirs things up and the story becomes impossible to put down.

I did question at times if April’s sense of right and wrong was leading her down the wrong path but the drama definitely makes for good entertainment.

The story is well written and structured brilliantly, all making for a smooth, enjoyable read. The characters chemistry and the push and pull between them created enough angst to get you on the edge of your seat at times. Even though it is only a Novella, you still get a lot of story for your money.

I can’t wait for book 2 which is released on 2nd of April to find out what will become of Liam and April/Sophia when all is revealed!

I recommend that you go buy this book now and read it ready for books 2’s release in a few weeks time!
