Literary Lust Double Review
Title: Girls Breaking The Rules – Alexa Author: Kelsey Burns
Reviewer: Donna & Zoë Star Rating – 5/5
Meet Alexa; Flighty, flirty and lots of fun. A beautician by day, by night she works a pole.
Strong in mind and body, no one messes with this sharp tongued girl, and no one can look away when she’s strutting her stuff.
Johnny Murphy is a handsome Dubliner with a knicker-dropping accent, and bundles of charm. He’s also the brother of Tash’s boyfriend, James.
Like all good stories, it begins in the pub, but can drunken flirting lead to something else? Will they be a match made in heaven? Or will the past tear them apart?
Review by Donna:
I was itching to get my hands on this 2nd book in the GBTR Novella Series, after enjoying book 1 so much I was eager to get stuck in.
Yet again Kelsey did not disappoint. The comradery that i loved so much in book one was ever present, along with the banter and humour, keeping this a light and enjoyable read of the best kind.
Alexa – a beautician with some extra special pole dancing skills, who also has a taste for a little sexy time with her friend Shelby (be warned this scene is hot!!) and Johnny- a super hot Irishman (The accent alone would do it for me hahaha!) are our feature coupling, no dull moments with this pair! There are chemistry and sparks in abundance. But just to throw a spanner in the works they do have a few road bumps they have to deal with – life would be boring if it was all plain sailing.
The only thing I could complain about is that I want to hear so much more from these two but I don’t see that as a bad thing!
Review by Zoë:
Flawless, funny, flirty, quite simply put it’s famazing!
The girls are back and I couldn’t be happier! After reading Tash’s story I couldn’t wait to dive into Alexa’s she was such an interesting fun loving character her story was bound to be one hell of a ride.
Alexa’s story was everything I wanted it to be and more her feisty nature remains and we get to see her unwavering love for her girls in a certain scene with Jack which had me laughing out loud. Her relationship with Johnny is great right from the start we feel the passion bubbling fast forward a few chapters and it’s less of a bubble and more an eruption. Those two were hot! Kelsey has the perfect blend of sex and story at no point did it just feel like there was a sex scene for the sake of it like many books I’ve read before.
I loved Johnny he was funny, sexy, the guy everybody wants as a friend and did I mention IRISH!! Totally swoon worthy, his banter with his brother James is almost as good as that between the girls, now I’ve mentioned James let me just say he’s still got it! He adds such a great dynamic to the book, I love his need to call everybody by their full name and his protective nature, it was great to see more of his and Tash’s relationship within this book too.
This book is written as if you’re just watching it all play out before your eyes, it’s effortless to read, I had such vivid visions of what they were all doing it was almost as if I was watching a TV series. The everyday banter and the tongue in cheek lines had me laughing on many occasions, it’s so refreshing to read a book that’s as funny as it is sexy and yet still had me invested in the characters.
I had wondered how Kelsey would continue with the same pace as book one considering that was a girls holiday which in itself brings back warm memories and allows for more drama than day to day happenings would. Would I love them the same when they were back to their everyday lives? The answer was no I wouldn’t, I’d love them more!
The friendship element of this series is what will drag me back time and again, there’s such a strong bond between Lex. Tash and Shelby its infectious, it feels like you’re one of them and you genuinely care what happens (I know I sound like a weirdo but blame Kelsey, she wrote the words!!) it’s great to see 3 strong, funny girls who can quite happily stand up and be counted on their own, they need their girlfriends but they don’t need men, they want them. That’s a huge difference to many books out there.
This book is a shout out to the sisterhood everywhere.
